Welcome to my blog!

Hello and welcome to my little slice of the internet! So first an introduction into the world where Hooves&Hikes came from.

I recently graduated from the University of Nottingham with an Msci in Natural Sciences (basically I studied a bit of Maths, some Biology and a lot of Chemistry for 4 years) and I am about to embark on my “gap year”. But I like to think of it as my adventure. And my chosen destination is New Zealand, for the first year anyway… Having been in education for the last 16 years of my life I knew I wanted to take a complete break before joining the “real world” of work. I never really knew what I wanted to go into after university and after unsuccessfully applying to some graduate schemes, I set my heart on travel.

Graduation July 2014

The Plan.
I became a member of the WWOOFing community for just $40 for 14 months which allows me have a profile, contact hosts and have access to a support network. I’m going to be staying with cultural exchange hosts – I will work for 4-5 hours a day in exchange for accomodation and food. And the work at the places I have chosen will be with horses – so for those that know me that won’t feel much like work!

I am going to WWOOF my way around New Zealand for the summer (or our winter) but not so sure about the winter yet, I might get a job in Auckland or do a ski season or find a long term WWOOF placement, who knows?! I have a working holiday visa for NZ for a year starting 21st October 2014 which allows me to work.So after my visa runs out I am going to travel around South East Asia with my buddy Zorro and possibly go to Australia, again who knows?!

So my plan is more of a rough outline but that’s okay as it makes it more of an adventure.
If you want to see if my plan is actually going to plan you can sign up for blog posts to the right somewhere –> or if you’re more of a visual person follow me on Instagram.

I'm going on an adventure

Over and out,
